BoardMaker- Writing Composition

BoardMaker- Writing Composition

Hey Everyone,

Today's entry is my AT trial of BoardMaker. This was my first time using Boardmaker so I did have some difficulty at first but then I was able to figure it out after reading the directions again. The version of Boardmaker that I used was a free 30 day trial. Also used in this project was a single 1/2 inch binder ring. I bought these rings on Amazon for other printables I put together.

This trial required the use of BoardMaker to design a tool to support writing composition. Many of the children that I service for speech also have some weaknesses in the area of writing. Luckily, most classrooms provide writing guides for the entire class posted on the wall for classroom use. While, this is helpful for most students I have noticed that some of my students can't access the guides because they are too far away to read, confused about which guide the teacher is referring to on the wall of 10+ other guides, or are too confused by the overwhelming amount of print on the guide. So for this trial I decided to take the guide some of the classrooms at my school use and simplify the text while also making it portable for homework use too.

The guide I simplified is the R.A.C.E. guide. This guide is used to help students respond to single questions prompts or to help guide the development of a paragraph. I have noticed some variation among teachers. At the time of this post I would have liked to include a picture of the classroom wall but my cellphone battery died and I didn't have a charger with me at work today. Instead I uploaded an example of a R.A.C.E prompt from the internet.

Above is a picture of my work in progress.

The picture above shows my final draft before printing compared next to a R.A.C.E poster. My school doesn't use the RACER but the idea is nearly identical to my school's poster.

This is a picture of the cards printed in black and white, whole punched, and held together with a binder ring.
