BoardMaker- reading

BoardMaker- reading; Bookmarker

Hey Everyone,

Today I used my free trial of Boardmaker to create a tool to help aide readers in the reading process. I was inspired by SchoolImprovement.com. Their site had a reading guide in the shape of a hand. I thought that the strategies for decoding were helpful but the presentation a bit awkward in my opinion. So, I created a bookmark with the same reading strategies. This bookmark would serve three different purposes. It would function as a traditional bookmark, a reading guide to stay on the right line, and offers tips on how to sound out difficult words. This tool I think could benefit all readers not only struggling readers. A benefit to this tool is that it is low cost and easily reproduced. Also, students can customize that backside of the bookmark. I think this would be a good idea because if the student has invested sometime in to personalizing the tool maybe they would be more inclined to use it and not lose it. A con is that because it is paper it could easily tear. I would suggest laminating the ruler and printing on card stock.

This was my work in progress.
I was able to fit more text by stretching the boxes.

This was the inspiration piece.
This is me using the book marker as a place guide.

The picture to the left is the front side. The picture to the right is my attempt at be artsy.
